mean people

Sometimes I get upset at all of the arrogant know-it-alls who are controlling and think only of social status. Their whole life revolves around attaining a high social status. One question I have is: Why do people go along with it but get upset at it at the same time? Why do people behave different around such people? Were these people abused and neglected as kids and didn't get the help they needed so they became like this as adults. I'm talking about someone who acts like they are the only great ones and no one else knows anything. People who try to stop you when you say something and become nasty when you stand up to them. People who seem to get their hair and makeup done every week, who act like they have high powered careers and make all the major decisions in the household. Their spouses act weak and display signs of inadequacy. Are these people beautiful jerks or really high powered people?
