1 to 1 Study Buddy Tutoring

This year I'm in the pittsburg district. I have 3 kindergartners, 3 5th/6th graders, 3 2nd/3rd graders. The parents in this district seen to care more than in WCC and Mt. Diablo. They work with their kids on academics, sit and watch tutoring sessions, ask questions which I didn't see last year in the other 2 districts. The kindergartners, as expected, are still learning the numbers and letters. They can't make sentences which I try to have them do so I give examples. One of them is struggling to write so I used to hold his had to make him write but not so much now. They all have problems concentrating but their parents constantly tell them to pay attention. A couple of students are ESL students. One of them I just started having him read short stories and ask specific questions to see his understanding. As for the 5th/6th graders they still count on their fingers to multiply basic facts and have to write down basic division problems as well as be reminded on carrying and borrowing. One of them gets anxious and starts writing sloppy so she makes careless mistakes and sometimes its hard to get her to see them. I have all my students do worksheets from edhelper, kidslearningstation, and get lessons fromreadwritethink.org. A couple of the 2nd/3rd grade students have some days that are better than others. One of them still has trouble with basic addition and subtraction so she counts on her fingers. The other one occasionally finds excuses to avoid work. One day, I drew all over the worksheet to get one of my 2nd graders to count forwards and backwards then decided that working backwards was easier. With tother student he wanted to look at the calender to subtract even though I kept telling him it only goes to 30 or 31 so I should have told him to use it only for months, days, and weeks problems.
