She could never quit the 'motel children'
I was watching TV on Sunday and came across a program called 'Motel Kids of Orange County' and its stayed with me since then for several reasons. 1. This country doesn't realize that some kids are living in seedy hotels because the parents can't afford housing. 2. The program director is Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Democratic speaker Nancy Pelosi. Nancy rides for $1,000,000 on a private plane and her daughter is documenting kids who live in bad motels and eating in soup kitchens with them. These kids' lives don't stretch beyond the parking lot of the motels. If you buy the documentary or look for when it will be on, it's a must see.
In addition to small group and individual tutoring and afterschool programming, I started working specifically with special needs kids.
