sad day in the ICU

I think I saw someone die today in Highland hospital ICU. The guy's family was making promises as I heard one lady in the group say; "I will." She later came out and requested a favor from a staff member there. I saw the EKG go flat and thought he died and the lady and her mom left about 20 minutes later. Later, I saw another machine reading a heart beat. After lunch, I went back there to resume my observations for hand hygiene and heard a nurse say the family wishes to disconnect something and told the lady; "I have your number if I need something."  A team of 2-3 doctors came to assess him and the nurse was doing some suction procedure on him. About half an hour later, the curtain around the guy's room was closed followed by the sliding glass door behind it. Later, a nurse put a Be Quiet sign on the door which had a symbol of a butterfly and then she taped a red butterfly to the door. One of the doctors said; "That patient just died." I assumed the closed curtains and door were not to disturb the patient and to get him ready for the morgue. As I spend more time there, I'll most likely see more patients die and not think about it so much but the first time always sticks with you.
