interesting day at volunteer office

today was an interesting day at the volunteer office. My supervisor interviewed a hispanic lady who could barely speak english and works at McDonalss. She understood what he was saying but had a difficult time responding. She admitted that it's hard for people to figure out what she wants to say. She has lofty goals. She wants to be a pediatrician and is in a mentoring program at Highland. I'm glad he decided to accept her. If she is given the chance to move outside of predominantly spanish speaking low-income neighborhoods she has a better chance of assimilating into mainstream culture and getting out of working at McDonalds.
Side note:one guy wrote his name on the application in a way where you don't know if he has several middle names but my boss said that if his name were as cool as that he would write out the whole thing.
Another side note: supervisor mentioned full name that sounded like Mary is barking and people who filled out all the paperwork then decided not to volunteer.
