set in their own ways

from conversations with coworkers yesterday why is it that some people only want to do things their own way and act as if their way is the only right way? Not to mention not really interacting with others when doing things to find out how to do it more savy? This includes relying solely on their own books or spending hours at the library reading books ( no one goes to the library anymore with google as the main source of info) instead of using the web (which everyone else does)
