schools with two different social level

I'm feeling really good today. Could it be there's something about wanting to be with afterschool programs in the richmond/san pablo area. Really liked it last year and learned what I should expect going into it. It will give me a chance to practice some new discipline techniques I came up with. When you try to help the low-income communities, they seem to appreciate it at the organization and individual level. However, when you go into rich areas like berkely, bay farm you feel like you are behind them. The kids in berkeley, bay farm are very knowledgable about history, talk about science with smiles on their faces and very calm even in really stressful situations where others would lose it.. Even the younger ones don't run around like typical kids. The kids in Richmond/San Pablo make smart aleck remarks and are into fashion labels, crushes but act more like kids.
Last year I was at the extreme ends of the socioeconomic scale. I started the beginning of the year in berkeley/bay farm island which are very rich areas where there is a very high level of education in math and science. Students there usually go to UCSF, Stanford, Berkeley majoring in the sciences. Then I ended the the year in San Pablo/Richmond where I saw why it has its' reputation. The schools are in very poor neighborhoods with parents who don't provide a lot of support to the school. The students are unruly coming from families where, once you see them, you know they are indifferent. They are unruly to the point where the school needs to hire a social worker who has the capacity to deal with the underlying issues causing the defiance.
